New Pioneer Plasma TVs are Better, Cheaper

The speed with which technology progresses nowadays is truly amazing. It seems that everything is going so high-tech, but that can be a good thing – depending on how you take it. For instance, plasma televisions. More specifically, Pioneer plasma TVs.

A report in Nikkei Electronics Asia says that the latest XGA 50-inch plasma display panels (PDP) from Pioneer are not only more competitively priced, they’re more energy efficient and technologically advanced as well. Contributing to the lower price is a reduction in the required peripheral circuit parts, such as data driver integrated circuits and tape carrier packages.

In addition, Pioneer is using a thin film known as a high-purity crystal layer in the screen. This is a kind of oxide material that gives out ultraviolet light and electrons. According to managing director Yoichi Sato, this material is not expensive and is easy to fabricate – another factor in the lowering of prices. Viewing quality is far from sacrificed: black luminance is reduced and the contrast ratio is increased to 4000:1.

Energy-wise, the new Pioneer XGA plasma televisions are said to consume as much as 75% less power than comparable brands out in the market. That’s a lot of energy savings for a household that watches television constantly!
