New Plasma TVs to be Introduced at the 2005 Berlin International Consumer Electronics Trade Fair (IFA)

A slew of plasma TVs and liquid crystal display (LCD) TVs will be showcased by various manufacturers at the 2005 Berlin International Consumer Electronics Trade Fair (IFA) in Germany in September. This comes on the heels of the announcement by broadcasters that they will air high-definition programming — sounding the death knell for conventional cathode ray tube (CRT) televisions and facilitating the move toward flat screen displays.

According to a report posted on www.iol.co.za, the following companies will be showcasing their latest plasma TV offerings at IFA:

  • NEC, with its 61-inch plasma TV that is specially designed to enhance viewing of soccer’s World Cup;
  • Panasonic, with its TH-65PV500 65-inch model. This is part of the company’s Viera line and it promises to be high-definition (HD) ready;
  • Phocus, with its 50-inch PDP 50X3 and 42-inch PDP 42 X2A plasma TVs, both of which utilize built-in panels from Panasonic. The units will cost approximate $4,000 and $1,500 respectively.

    IFA 2005 promises to be a well-attended event, since it is billed as the largest consumer electronics trade show in Europe. Expect to see tons of coverage on plasma TVs from these manufacturers and others as the event unfolds.
