Panasonic's 103-inch HDTV
Panasonic has once again shown that it is the king of the plasma television jungle by introducing a 103-inch high definition plasma TV, claiming for its own the title once held by rivals Samsung and LG for the biggest PDP in the industry. This giant television made news all over the world when it was exhibited at the January 2006 Consumers Electronic Show (CES) in Las Vegas, Nevada in the United States.
With a screen that measures 103 inches (261.6 cm) diagonally, it's certainly impossible to ignore. And because it's a Panasonic, we can expect the same excellent quality that is present in the company's earlier plasma screen offerings -- only on a much, much bigger scale. It features the Panasonic 1080p HD high-speed pixel drive, which has been used successfully in some of the manufacturer's smaller plasma TV's. The high-definition resolution is pegged at 1,920 by 1,080 pixels, while contrast ratio is 3000:1.
It's scheduled for release into the retail market in December 2006. Now that would be one heck of a Christmas present! Pricing hasn't been released as of May 2006, but rumors are circulating that it might cost $70,000 or more. A drop in the bucket for the uber rich and famous like Michael Jackson -- it's been said that he wants one of these Panasonic 103-inch plasma displays.
