Plasma TV Buying Trends Positive for LG

Korean company LG Electronics is excited about the results of an International Data Corp. (IDC) Internet survey of the television buying habits of a number of consumers in the United States. Apparently, many consumers are gung-ho about purchasing big and new high-definition televisions (HDTV).

High definition is practically self-explanatory. It just means that the picture quality of televisions is extraordinarily crisp, clear and bright. Given the amount of time that many people — not just Americans — spend watching television, image quality is very important indeed. Also, an increasing amount of content is being developed for HDTV, and this will very likely impact consumers’ purchasing behavior.

The best part of the survey is where it shows that consumers are willing to part with a large amount of money to buy a large flat panel display. More survey respondents stated that they preferred plasma TV’s to LCD (liquid crystal display) screens and projection TV’s. The poll also found that 42-inch models are the most popular among consumers.

LG plans to maximize sales in this market by focusing on 42-inch models, such as its PY1 and PX4 range of plasma TV’s. Other development plans are in the works, all pointing to the company’s goal to become one of the top three entities in the world market for digital displays by 2007.
